“In August Kathryn & I ventured into the Katmai Wilderness in the remote part of Alaska for 10 days of photographing grizzlies hunting salmon. This would lead to us spending more than 60 hours in close proximity to wildlife like the grizzlies, Wolves & Bald Eagles. We had the privilege of being led by Erik Larson who is one of the premier bear guides in Alaska. As a photographer, we wanted to concentrate on our photography and it was vital we had somebody monitoring for our safety. With a gentle patience, Erik kept us safe even stepping directly in front of us to ward off a Grizzly charge and taught us how to be safe in this environment. By teaching us the correct way to act & position ourselves we were able to capture unique action shots at full frame due to our proximity to the action. Erik was tireless in working with us to either position us for the best action or educating us on the wildlife we were with. To know you are safe because you know how to behave but still have a grizzly & her cub choose to walk past you within 6 ft is a very exciting and cool experience.”
